What the next ninety days actually look like
Nobody hands you a brochure and wishes you luck. Here is the real shape of it.
You reach out
A phone call or a form at 3am. We answer, we ask a few questions, and we tell you straight whether we have a bed and whether we're the right fit. If we're not, we'll tell you who is.
You move in
Usually within 48 hours. You get a bed, a key, a drawer, and a house that already knows your name. First week you're just finding the coffee.
You find footing
Weekly house meeting, daily check-in, a curfew that loosens as you earn it. We help you get to work, to meetings, to court if that's where you need to be.
You go the distance
We encourage residents to stay long enough to build genuine stability, independence, and strong recovery routines. Length of stay will vary based on each resident's goals and progress. As our community grows, our goal is to create opportunities for residents to take on leadership roles and remain connected to the TrueNorth community even after moving into independent living. The door doesn't close behind you.

How we run a house
Small on purpose
Six to ten residents per house. Big enough for a real community, small enough that your absence is noticed the same day.
Structure you can feel
Curfew, chores, house meetings, and random testing. Not to punish — because the shape of a day is the thing most of us lost first.
Peer-led, not managed
House leaders are residents who've been where you are. Staff support the house; the house runs itself. That's the part that sticks.
Honest about money
One clear rate per house, posted publicly. No intake fee, no surprise charges. If you hit a rough patch, come talk to us before you disappear.

Most people asking this question are doing math in a parking lot. So here it is up front, with nothing buried below the fold.

We'll post the exact rate here the moment our first house opens. Call us in the meantime and we'll tell you what we're planning — including what's included and what isn't.

- Your bed, furnished, in a shared or private room depending on the house
- All utilities — water, electric, gas, internet
- Basic household supplies and cleaning products
- Drug and alcohol testing
- House meetings and peer support
- Help getting to work, meetings, and appointments
What's not included

- Groceries and personal food
- Personal toiletries
- Phone, transportation, and personal expenses
- Clinical treatment, therapy, or medication (we help you connect to these — we don't provide them)
Insurance, honestly
Does insurance cover this?
Sober living is housing, not clinical treatment, so health insurance usually does not pay for it directly. Be skeptical of any operator who tells you otherwise. What insurance can cover is the clinical care you receive while living here — outpatient programs, counseling, and medication-assisted treatment. We'll help you line those up.

Financial Assistance
Recovery should be accessible whenever possible. We understand that financial challenges can make the transition into recovery housing difficult. Our team will work with each individual to explore available options, including flexible payment arrangements, community resources, and any financial assistance that may be available. While funding opportunities vary and cannot be guaranteed, we encourage anyone with financial concerns to contact us. We're committed to helping individuals identify the resources that may support their recovery journey
Payment plans
We recognize that everyone's financial situation is different. For qualified residents, flexible payment arrangements may be available to help ease the transition into structured recovery housing. Our goal is to work with residents and their families to develop a payment schedule that promotes both stability and accountability.
Texas HHSC recovery support
Some Texas residents qualify for state-funded recovery support services. We'll help you find out whether you do.
Employment first
Residents are required to be working within three weeks. We treat that as part of the program, not a side quest.

Why we started
Recovery is about more than staying sober—it's about building a meaningful life. We founded TrueNorth Living to provide more than simply a place to stay. We wanted to create recovery homes where individuals can find structure, accountability, community, and practical support as they move toward stable, independent lives. Every decision we make is guided by the belief that people in recovery deserve a safe environment and a strong foundation for their future.

A house, not a facility
Residents have keys. Residents cook. Residents vote on house issues. Nobody is a patient here.
Dignity is not a reward
You don't earn respect by staying sober long enough. It's the starting condition, and it's not revocable.
We say the hard thing early
If a house isn't working for someone, we have that conversation while there's still time to fix it — not at the point of exit.
Recovery outlasts residency
Alumni keep house keys to the Sunday dinner. The relationship doesn't end when the rent does.
Accountability
Standards and accountability
Texas does not license sober living homes at the state level, which means the burden of proving quality falls on operators. We think that's worth taking seriously rather than hiding behind.
TROHN certification — in progress
We are working toward certification with the Texas Recovery Oriented Housing Network (TROHN), the state affiliate of the National Alliance for Recovery Residences. We are not certified yet, and this page will say so plainly the day that changes.
Fair housing
Recovery is protected under the Fair Housing Act and the ADA. We follow that in every admission decision.
Clear house agreement
A written agreement covers rate, rules, testing and guests. You get your copy before you move in, not after.
Small enough to know everyone
Every resident is known by name by the people running the house. Problems get noticed the day they start.

FAQ
Questions people actually ask.

How fast can I move in?
Often within 48 hours of your application if a bed is open. If nothing is open at the house you want, we'll tell you where you sit on the waitlist and give you a real estimate — not a maybe.
Do I have to be detoxed first?
Yes. Sober living is not detox and not a treatment facility. You need to be medically stable and past withdrawal before moving in. If you're not there yet, call us anyway and we'll help you find a detox or treatment program first.
How long do people stay?
There's no maximum. The research is consistent that longer stays predict better outcomes, so we won't push you out on a schedule.
What happens if someone relapses?
TrueNorth Living is committed to maintaining a safe, substance-free environment for every resident. Any use of alcohol or illicit drugs will result in immediate removal from the home while the situation is evaluated. Re-entry may be considered on a case-by-case basis after an appropriate clinical assessment and completion of any recommended level of care. Our goal is to protect the recovery of the entire community while supporting each individual with compassion, accountability, and a clear path forward whenever possible.
Can I keep my job?
You're expected to. Work, school, or structured volunteering is part of the program. We schedule house obligations around normal working hours wherever we can.
Can I have visitors?
TrueNorth Living encourages healthy family and support relationships through approved visitation during designated hours. To maintain a safe and recovery-focused environment, all visitors must be approved by management, remain in common areas, and comply with house rules; overnight guests and anyone under the influence of drugs or alcohol are strictly prohibited.
Do you take people on MAT (Suboxone, methadone, Vivitrol)?
TrueNorth Living supports evidence-based recovery and accepts residents who are prescribed Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) on a case-by-case basis. All MAT medications must be legally prescribed, taken as directed, and managed in accordance with house policies; misuse, diversion, or unauthorized medications are strictly prohibited.
Are you a men's or women's house?
TrueNorth does not operate co-ed residences; men and women live in separate houses.
Is my information private?
Yes. We don't confirm or deny that anyone lives here to callers, including family, without that resident's written permission.
What if I have a court order or probation requirement?
We welcome individuals involved with probation, parole, or drug court when our program is an appropriate fit. With proper resident consent, we can communicate with supervising professionals and provide appropriate residency or compliance documentation.
